Today’s Taurus moon is making a lovely, supportive aspect to Saturn, Venus and the Sun in Capricorn. As my natal moon is Taurus and my natal North Node conjuncts my Ascendent in Capricorn, I’m really feeling the comfort of WORK! And I must say that this energy is really good for manifesting a reality of beautiful things (or at least contribute your vision for that beauty) and I thought it would be fun to forecast the astro weather for the year ahead…
Of course, I knew I would be 6,000 miles away from home, having travelled to the Emerald Isle for Christmas, and so I pre-recorded this episode and had it scheduled to launch at 11:11 MST on Dec 28 — but…like most of my planned endeavors in 2017, this one did not go as well…my podcast did not launch and I got locked out of the hosting software after too many attempts with a bad password…
This is part of the magic of traveling during a mercury retrograde in the sign of Sagittarius — that sign of global travel! So many memory making  experiences have come of this journey and here I am, in the Mercury Rx Shadow Zone, having just one more …..the gift that keeps on giving this holiday season…
I have to be honest and say that I am still reflecting on the lessons of the previous year, but this year, more than any other time, LIFE has shown me there is truly no way to know what the future has in store for you. If there is one thing that 2017 has taught me, it is to be BRAVE. And to be more vulnerable…and to be open to what is in store for you, to allow it to unfold.
I was explaining these lessons to my sis in law at dinner tonight, about what had happened, and she asked, “how can you, an astrologer, say that –when you have chosen to look to the stars to, in essence, predict the future?”
It made me realize that too many people have yet to use astrology in the way, I believe, it was intended….so, perhaps I should share a little bit about my philosophy when it comes to astrology…
Astrology is NOT your fate. It is not deterministic. You have free will in all things and astrology is an amazing tool of self-discovery, if you are willing to use it that way. Astrology reflects mere conditions you have to work with, just like a weather forecast.
NOW…Having said that, if you go outside w/out an umbrella on a rainy day, you will get wet.
So… let’s get to that cosmic weather forecast for 2018 and see whether we will need the proverbial umbrella or might we pack our bathing suits….
We begin the New Year with a Supermoon in it’s home sign of Cancer, setting the tone for the entire year, to be honest…and we will be pondering the theme of HOME throughout 2018 —
James Hillman states in his essay, MYTHOLOGY AS FAMILY, “Where does family fit in the modern myth of independence? That myth says Home is what you leave behind. Moving on means moving out. You can’t go home again — unless after divorce or failure…”
The lunar cycles throughout 2018 begin heavy handed: January and March will see two blue moons this year, while February only has one moon event (but a potent one at that, the Chinese New Year and solar eclipse!)
The eclipses won’t be as exciting this year as they were in 2017, but they ARE still facilitating the evolution of consciousness in the themes of authenticity, creativity, leadership and innovation.
With these eclipses occurring in the signs of Leo/ Aquarius (with one eclipse mid year in the sign of Cancer!) we are encouraged to make the leap from the shoulders of the masses, pushing forward toward authentic self-expression without the need for applause from the audience. We are learning that contributing from our heart center is the greatest gift to humanity, lifts us up and away from the need for validation…

For in late fall, the Nodes of the Moon shift from the Leo/ Aquarius axis to Cancer/ Capricorn and our collective soul compass will take on a more feminine vibe, internal direction, moving us back home with a new found confidence in self-expression.

For most of 2018, the Nodes of the Moon continue to transit through the Leo/ Aquarius Axis. On November 7, 2018 the nodes of the moon will have shifted from Leo/ Aquarius into Cancer/ Capricorn where it will transit thru May 5, 2020.
In astrology, the nodal axis signifies the path of conscious evolution. In a birth chart, it represents the path of one’s soul –and collectively, it represents how we are evolving together. We are wrapping up the Leo/Aquarius story of the past 18 months, where we discovered how easy it is to get lost in the crowd when we ignore the calling of being an authentic and heart-centered leader.
The moon rules the realms of the PSYCHE, so the nodal axis shift into Cancer/ Capricorn is a return home — it will plunge us into experiences of deep soul work during the nodal transit through its ruling sign.
As the North Node transits Cancer (the sign of Home), the south node will join Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn, forcing us to reckon  how we’ve done business up to this point — what is working, what is not? What resources can we use to structure the new work load? Where are we limiting ourselves and what transformations can come about if we are willing to let go of what no longer works? Can we let go? Or do we face the dire consequences of repeating the mistakes of our past?
Collectively speaking, we will be testing the age old question of whether or not we can go home again.  Working on balancing the needs of home vs. work; privacy vs. celebrity; inheritance vs. legacy; mother vs. father; the numinous vs. the tangible.
I’ve written a post on retrogrades here. Learn what they mean and how to work with them. But for 2018, we have three Mercury retrogrades in Fire signs, which will likely urge us to slow down and learn the virtues of patience.

1) 3/22/18 16° Aries 54′ – 4/15/18  4° Aries 47′
2) 7/26/18 23* Leo 27′ thru 8/19/18 11* Leo 32′
3) 11/16/18 13* Sagittarius 30′ thru Dec 6, 2018 27* Scorpio 16′
Venus retrogrades in Scorpio/ Libra (testing our most intimate relationships, for sure.)
Oct 5, 2018 10* Scorpio 50′ thru Nov 16 25* Libra 15′
Mars retrograde in Aquarius forms a Fixed T-square to Uranus (planetary ruler of Aquarius) and Jupiter — locking horns and digging in the heels…this is a potent aspect influencing the energy of the retrograde and when Mars stations Rx, we feel it in our personal ambitions, drive, passion, motivation.
Jun 26, 2018 9* Aquarius 13′ – August 27, 2018 28* Capricorn 37′
Jupiter backtracks through Scorpio, asks us to dig a little deeper into the dramas of mid December. What did we overlook then? What can we be certain of?
March 8, 2018 Rx 23* Scorpio 13′ – Jul 10 13* Scorpio 21′
Saturn retraces its path in the early degrees of Capricorn, as if to guide us in making sure the structures we have been building since January 6th are indeed solid –and expansive– enough to contain the vision for our new reality.
April 17, 2018 Saturn 9* Capricorn 9′ – Sept 6 2* Capricorn 33′
Uranus After ingressing Taurus in May, Uranus retreats back into the sign of Aries on November 7 (same day as the Nodal Axis shift) which might feel a little abrasive. The uncertainty is sure to show up in global matters, around areas of finance, value/ values, and personal assertion.
January 2, 2018 Uranus turns direct at 24* Aries 34′
Nov 7, 2018 2* Taurus 34′ thru Jan 7, 2019 28° Aries 36′
Neptune continues its journey through its sign, but takes us on a journey of the imagination. On the mundane level, the Neptune retrograde inspires the search for a savior — it can be confusing and we tend to project our needs onto those whom we feel can save us– from what, though? Our own sabotage?
6/18/18 16* Pisces 30′
Pluto retrogrades are felt more in the collective, unless it is touching a personal point in one’s natal chart. Pluto Rx shows us where we are still hanging on, where we can loosen our grip. It is not always easy to let go, but in Capricorn, it is huge because it means our reputations are at stake.
April 22, 2018 Pluto 21* Capricorn 17′ – Sept 30, 2018 18* Capricorn 45′

“Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave and grow old wanting to return to.”
“It’s a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realized what’s changed is you.”-F. Scott Fitzgerald
As I mentioned, 2018 will have us pondering HOME…
When a planet makes a homecoming, the energies express easily.
Right from the get-go, 2018 has Saturn in Capricorn, Mars in Scorpio, Moon in Cancer and Neptune in Pisces gives us some grounding as each planet rules the sign it is in…it feels like a sort of homecoming, where you return to regain strength, where you are loved and where you can retreat for a short rejuvenate before having to go out again, taking up arms. These planetary rulers in their home signs (all YIN/ Feminine, btw) are in their highest power.
Jupiter enters its home sign Sagittarius in early November, beginning its 12 month journey of expanding our horizons and asking for what we want!
Chiron, the wounded healer, moves into Aries on April 17 for an 8 year-long Fool’s Journey. Chiron shows us where we need to be more compassionate with ourselves, and in the sign of Aries, it urges us to take that leap of faith and explore where our greatest capacity lies for healing the collective.
December 20, 2017 Saturn in Capricorn
March 31 – Apr 24 Venus in Taurus
Aug 6 – Sep 9 Venus in Libra
November 8, 2018 Jupiter in Sagittarius
But the biggest planetary shift for 2018 is Uranus into Taurus.
Uranus tiptoes across the line into the sign of Taurus on May 19th where it inspires us to be innovative with our money, the environment, the building industry and perhaps even bio-hacks! But on August 7, 2018 – Jan 6, 2019, Uranus goes retrograde and will backtrack into the sign of Aries again. The result here is likely a reconsideration of where we thought we were headed with all the Taurean innovation — at least for now. I suspect on the mundane level, this will impact governments, business, banking… People will remember the environment, their own money, government structures, etc…and we will level it all.

2017 was rife with disruption — between Uranus + Jupiter, Jupiter + Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn and Chiron…now we are entering into an integrative phase where we can take the growth lessons of 2017 and start to use the energies in a more practical and constructive way.

Jupiter is very active this year, and will make a return home to its ruling sign of Sagittarius in November. It is an advantageous homecoming, where anything is possible!
In 2017, we had a chance to work through that tense aspect of the Jupiter/Pluto squares. The drive to transform our conditions was intensely felt. The over arching belief beyond our circumstances gave us hope in a transformed future. After we squeezed out the adjustments, now we are ready to integrate its wisdom. On the global scale this aspect saw where we needed to make serious adjustments in matters of law, commerce and politics.  With experience backing us, hopefully 2018 will see us integrating these principles for positive improvements to our current circumstances.
Jupiter sextile Pluto: three exact contacts this year — abundance and power, expanding your influence. If you are a self-help junkie, this one is for you! Optimistic Jupiter is our luck, our beliefs, our abundance– while Pluto is our power and drive to regenerate! The two are in flow this year, empowering our faith, intellect and drive for success. There really is nothing much to do here other than allow the wisdom of previous adjustments fall into place. You have this…!
Find out which area of life this will likely impact by looking to the houses of your chart that are occupied by Jupiter and Pluto.
Jupiter at 19 Scorpio 18 forms a sextile to Pluto at 19 Capricorn 18
21 Scorpio 16 and 21 Capricorn 16
18 Scorpio 51 and 18 Capricorn 51
Jupiter trine Neptune – 2xs, completing the cycle begun in 2017
The two spiritually imaginative archetypes, Jupiter the optimist and Neptune the dreamer, work in flow to help us see the bigger picture. Use this time to dream the big dream, casting your biggest net into the ocean of the imagination to see what dreams you can catch or what hope surfaces — emotions, feelings, spirituality, psychicism, the BIG PSYCHIC TRIANGLE…
SaturnRx in 2* Capricorn trines UranusRx in 2* Taurus (August 21 to September 21)
The Senex and Puer, the meeting of the old and new, the reality and the intuition…Structuring a new reality with innovation…the values, the reputation, the known versus the unknown… this is a wild time to rethink, rebuild and restructure our reality.
